Jewish Center of the Hamptons
A post denominational East Hampton synagogue whose clergy help couples marry in its Norman Jaffe sanctuary or at a venue of their choice.
The Jewish Center of the Hamptons is a post denominational synagogue on Woods Lane in East Hampton, founded in 1959. It describes itself as the spiritual home of 400 member families, with a community in Manhattan as well as on the East End.
How they work
The synagogue’s lifecycle page says its clergy are glad to help couples through the process, whether they marry in its sanctuary or beyond its walls. The sanctuary, named Shaarey Pardes, was designed by the architect Norman Jaffe and dedicated in 1988. The center’s own chuppah is available, or couples can bring their own. The site does not set out a wedding process or fees, so the first step is a call or email to the office, which is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Who it suits
Jewish couples who want clergy rooted in the East End and the option of a sanctuary ceremony in East Hampton. The center says it welcomes each person regardless of gender, sexual orientation and race. It is not the right first call for couples who want a fully secular ceremony with no religious content.
